The outdoor classrooms at Great Falls High School have remained an integral part of education, especially for the art classes. They provide an excellent opportunity to get outside for some fresh air while learning.

Sculpture Garden
This outdoor classroom was recently put into place. The committee for its creation was headed by Dr. Anderson, Miss VanTighem, and Miss Easton, among others. The space was not being utilized, and Dr. Anderson found this unsatisfactory. The space is still in the process of being recreated. The plan is to continue its development, with help from the industrial technology department in creating benches and portable stools. The art department was helped by students studying construction at Great Falls High, Forde Nursery, which supplied dirt and other materials. An irrigation system was created by last year's students. Art classes will be decorating the space with sculptures in the next few years.

FUN FACT:

Bertha, a baby bison that used to be the live mascot for GFHS, was rumored to be buried underneath a pile of bricks that was placed into the ground where the current sculpture classroom is now. The bricks, however, were an art project created by students many years ago. Bertha was the symbol for Great Falls High but she was not buried underneath a pile of bricks.
